I’ve always said that my most redeemable quality, easily my best quality, as a person, is my curly hair. And as such, I’m very protective of my hair and my status as a curly haired individual. It’s all I have.
Nowadays everyone’s into curly hair. It’s stylish. That was not always the case. When I was a kid “curly hair” was not a thing to be envied - it was “unruly” or “a mess” or “caveman-like”. And as a kid, whenever my hair got a bit messy, my parents would take me to Great Clips and chop it off.
Let me say this now: there’s no worse place to bring your child, if you want them to have friends, than a Great Clips. If you haven’t heard of Great Clips, think Supercuts. Don’t let the name fool you. There was no greatness present. No one has ever walked out of a Great Clips, looking better than the walked in. When you walk into a Great Clips, you look like someone who might need a haircut. And that’s fine! That’s a solvable issue - the solution is to go get a haircut. But when you walk out of a Great Clips, you look like someone who just got a haircut, but your shit is all fucked up. And when your shits all fucked up? Nothing you can do but wait 4-6 weeks for it to unfuck itself.
There’s very little worse than getting a bad haircut and going in public too. Because everyone, everyone, can spot a bad haircut. And it’s funny, you know when you get a bad haircut because your friends all say the same exact thing, “Oh it’ll look better once it grows in a bit.”
…
“It’ll look better. When it grows in.”
Me, personally, that’s almost the exact opposite of why I went to get a haircut. I got a haircut so my hair, which was grown, looks cut. If I wanted my hair to look grown, I would’ve kept it grown.
I know what you’re thinking, if you got a bad haircut, just wear a hat. But like I said, this is all I have. Even with a bad haircut, I can’t cover it up. I go from a soft 6, to a hard 3 without this hair. [im thinking of an analogy to throw in here]
